While You Were Sleeping...

I can't believe that I'm writing this on Christmas Eve. It has literally creeped up on me again! I guess my mom was right: the older you get, the faster Christmas will come!
This Christmas has been put into a different perspective for me because of "Radical" by David Platt and a sermon I heard by our Wesley director, Matt Martin. The churh does a great job of reminding the world that "Jesus is the reason for the season" but does an awful job of telling WHY Jesus is so important! We assume that everyone we encounter knows exactly who Jesus is and why he is important. Instead, we just tell everyone "HEY! Guess what? Today is Jesus' birthday!". We simply leave it at that.Christmas is so much more than a birthday party, but isn't that what we make it? It's the birth of the savior of the world! That is something to celebrate, but shouldn't our celebration include our joyous encounter with the one who took on God's wrath directed towards our sins as his own and died for us? The whole reason Jesus came to this Earth was out of love for us. He came to take our sins away so that we could live with him in Heaven one day. So often during Christmas we forget about that. We link the death and resurrection of Christ with Easter. But if Jesus wasn't born, how could he have died?! We should never be quick to forget why Jesus is important. So I challenge you [whoever you are reading this...if anyone is reading this], to change your mindset for this Christmas and future Christmases to come. Don't make it a birthday party, make it a celebration that lasts all year long!
